Does the 7x10 trailer come with electric brakes?

No it doesn’t but they’re available as a custom option.

Side Note: If the combined weight of the trailer and its load approaches or exceeds 3,000 pounds, many jurisdictions require brakes on the trailer. However, a 4x6 enclosed trailer, given its size, is unlikely to reach this weight limit when fully loaded, as they typically have a lower payload capacity.

Safety Considerations

Driving Conditions: If you plan to tow your trailer in hilly or mountainous areas, or if you’ll be driving in a lot of stop-and-go traffic, having electric brakes can significantly improve safety by reducing stopping distances and improving vehicle control.

Emergency Handling: Electric brakes can offer better control in emergency braking situations, reducing the risk of accidents.

Wear on Vehicle Brakes: Using a trailer with its own braking system can reduce wear and tear on your vehicle’s brakes, especially important for frequent towing or heavy loads.

What electric hookup do I need for my trailer lights?

4-way flat plug

What is the bolt pattern for the wheels?

5x4.5 (5 Lug)

What is your tire ply rating?

6 Ply

What is semi screw less?

Get the Perfect Fit: Your 7x10 Single Axle with Extra Height Trailer for Maximum Cargo Flexibility

Finding the right enclosed trailer can feel like a compromise. You need something compact enough to navigate tight job sites or crowded campgrounds, yet spacious enough to handle your valuable equipment, gear, or inventory. Too often, standard models force you to choose between maneuverability and capacity, leaving you with a solution that doesn’t quite meet your needs. The global cargo trailer market is booming, expected to grow to USD 12.3 Billion by 2033, and with that growth comes a demand for more specialized, tailored solutions.

The Challenge: When Standard Height Simply Won’t Do

The most common frustration isn’t just about floor space; it’s about vertical space. Standard-height trailers can be restrictive, forcing you to awkwardly tilt tall items, disassemble equipment, or leave crucial gear behind. A standard 6-foot interior height might sound sufficient, but when you factor in loading a UTV with a roll cage, stacking boxes securely, or simply wanting to stand up straight while working inside, the limitations become clear. This vertical constraint is where many trailer owners find their efficiency and convenience compromised.

Introducing the Solution: Your Custom 7x10 Single Axle Enclosed Trailer with Extra Height

Imagine a trailer that combines the agile footprint of a compact unit with the cavernous interior of a larger model. This is the promise of a custom 7x10 single axle enclosed trailer with added height. It’s a purpose-built solution designed to eliminate the compromises. This specific configuration hits a “sweet spot,” offering the ideal balance of towability, capacity, and customization, giving you the vertical advantage you’ve been missing.

What You’ll Learn: A Complete Guide to Your Perfect Trailer

This guide will walk you through every aspect of the 7x10 single axle enclosed trailer with custom extra height. We will explore why this size and configuration is an intelligent choice, dive deep into the game-changing benefits of adding vertical space, and detail the practical considerations for designing and owning the perfect hauler for your specific needs. From professional applications to recreational adventures, you’ll discover how to get the perfect fit.

The Foundation: Why a 7x10 Single Axle Enclosed Trailer is a Smart Choice

Before we elevate the roof, let’s look at the base model. The 7x10 single axle enclosed trailer is a popular and versatile platform for a reason. It represents a masterful blend of capacity and maneuverability that serves a wide range of users, from contractors to weekend warriors.

Compact Agility Meets Practical Capacity

The “7x10” designation refers to a 7-foot width and a 10-foot length, creating a substantial 70 square feet of floor space. The 7-foot width is a key advantage, providing what many refer to as a “Wide Trailer” feel. This extra width, compared to more common 6-foot wide models, allows for easier loading of wider equipment like UTVs, zero-turn mowers, or pallets, and provides more room to maneuver around your cargo.

Paired with a single axle, this enclosed cargo trailer becomes exceptionally nimble. Single axle trailers are renowned for being easier to navigate in tight spaces, simpler to park, and less demanding on the tow vehicle, making them a cost-effective and user-friendly choice.

Key Features of a Quality Enclosed Cargo Trailer

A durable enclosed trailer is built on a strong foundation. Look for robust construction elements like a steel tube main frame and tongue, which provide superior strength and rigidity over C-channel or angle iron frames. High-quality models, like those from Plain Ol’ Trailers, often feature 16-inch on-center crossmembers for the floor and walls, ensuring the structure can handle heavy loads and the rigors of the road. Standard features typically include 3/4-inch plywood flooring, 3/8-inch plywood walls for durability, a rear ramp door for easy loading, and a side door for convenient access.

The Game-Changer: Maximizing Potential with Custom Extra Height

While the base 7x10 is highly capable, the addition of custom extra height transforms it from a useful tool into an indispensable asset. This single customization unlocks a new level of utility and efficiency that standard models simply cannot offer.

What Does “Custom Extra Height” Mean for a 7x10 Trailer?

Standard interior height for many enclosed trailers is around 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches. “Custom extra height” means increasing this vertical dimension during manufacturing. Common increments include an additional 6, 12, or even 18 inches. A 12-inch increase, for example, would take a standard 6’3″ interior to a spacious 7’3″, providing ample headroom and cargo capacity. This isn’t an aftermarket modification; it’s an integrated part of the trailer’s design, ensuring structural integrity is maintained.

The Core Benefits: Why Vertical Space is a Real Advantage

Adding height provides three primary advantages. First, it dramatically increases the total cubic footage, allowing you to stack cargo higher and more securely, effectively increasing your hauling capacity without increasing the trailer’s footprint. Second, it allows for the transport of tall, awkward items that would be impossible to fit in a standard trailer, such as refrigerators, large tool chests, or UTVs with custom cages. Finally, it improves the user experience, allowing most people to stand up fully and work inside the trailer comfortably, turning it into a mobile workshop or storage unit rather than just a transportation box.

Tailored Solutions: Specific Ways Extra Height Makes a Difference

The practical applications of an extra-height enclosed trailer are vast and varied. This customization directly addresses the unique challenges faced by different users, making it a valuable investment across recreational, professional, and personal use cases.

Recreational Hauling: Elevate Your Adventures

For outdoor enthusiasts, extra height is a necessity. It allows for easy loading of side-by-sides (UTVs) and ATVs with raised suspensions, light bars, or roll cages without fear of damage. It provides the clearance needed to transport motorcycles upright and offers ample space to install internal racks for kayaks, surfboards, or other bulky gear, keeping everything organized and secure while leaving floor space free.

Professional & Commercial Use: Boost Your Productivity

Contractors, landscapers, and tradespeople benefit immensely from a taller trailer. It allows for the transport of bulky equipment like scaffolding, pressure washers, or commercial mowers. More importantly, it enables the creation of a mobile workshop. You can install full-height shelving, tool benches, and vertical storage systems, transforming your enclosed cargo trailer into an organized, efficient, and weatherproof extension of your business.

Home & Personal Use: Effortless Transport for Everything You Need

For homeowners, the added height simplifies moving. Large furniture like armoires, refrigerators, and tall bookcases can be transported upright, reducing the risk of damage. It’s also perfect for hauling project materials from the hardware store or serving as a tall, walk-in storage unit for seasonal items, decluttering your garage and home with a secure, weather-protected space.

Designing for Enhanced Utility: Key Considerations for Your Tall Trailer

When you add height to a single axle enclosed trailer, several design elements must be considered to ensure the final product is safe, durable, and user-friendly. It’s not just about stretching the walls; it’s about engineering a cohesive and robust system.

Structural Integrity and Frame Reinforcement

Increasing the height adds more surface area, which can be affected by wind. Reputable manufacturers like Plain Ol’ Trailers account for this by ensuring the wall studs, often made of steel tubing, are appropriately spaced (typically 16 inches on-center) and that the roof bows are sufficiently strong to support the taller structure. The main frame must be robust enough to handle the potential for a higher center of gravity.

Door Systems: Easy Access to Your Tall Cargo

Your doors need to match your new height. The rear ramp door and the side entry door will be built taller to provide a clear opening that takes full advantage of the increased interior space. This ensures you can easily load and unload your tall items without obstruction. Consider adding a ramp extension flap to decrease the loading angle for wheeled equipment.

Interior Layouts and Securement Strategies for Taller Items

A taller interior opens up new possibilities for organization. You can install full-height E-track systems on the walls, providing infinite tie-down points to secure tall or stacked cargo. This is crucial for preventing items from shifting or tipping over during transit. Plan your interior layout to maximize vertical storage with shelving or cabinets that wouldn’t fit in a standard-height trailer.

Maximize Your Trailer’s Interior Volume (Think “Wide Trailer” Feel)

The combination of a 7-foot width and extra height creates a surprisingly voluminous interior. This “Wide Trailer” feel is amplified vertically, giving you a space that feels much larger than its 7x10 footprint suggests. This volume is key to maximizing utility, whether you’re stacking inventory, organizing tools, or creating a comfortable workspace.

Practical Aspects of Towing and Ownership: What You Need to Know

Owning a custom trailer involves more than just loading it up. Understanding the practical aspects of towing, loading, and maintenance will ensure a safe and successful experience.

Center of Gravity and Load Distribution

Adding height will raise the trailer’s center of gravity. Proper load distribution is critical. Heavier items should always be placed low and centered over the axle. Aim for approximately 60% of the weight in the front half of the trailer and 40% in the rear to maintain proper tongue weight (typically 10-15% of the total trailer weight) for stable, sway-free towing.

Legal Height Limits and Permits

While most custom-height 7x10 trailers will fall well below legal limits, it’s wise to be aware of them. The maximum vehicle height in most states is 13’6″. Your custom trailer will be significantly lower than this, but it’s important to measure your final height and be mindful of low-clearance bridges, gas station overhangs, and even tree branches at your home or job site.

Ramp Angle and Loading Aids for Taller Loads

A taller trailer deck means a steeper ramp angle. For low-clearance items like sports cars or certain mowers, a ramp extension or dovetail (a feature where the rear of the trailer floor slopes down) can be invaluable. These options reduce the breakover angle, preventing equipment from getting stuck or damaged during loading and unloading.

Tires, Wheels, and Axle Capacity

A 7x10 single axle enclosed trailer typically comes with a 3,500 lb axle. It’s crucial to know your trailer’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and never exceed it. The added height doesn’t increase the weight capacity. Ensure your tires are properly inflated to the manufacturer’s specification and are rated for the load you intend to carry. Radial tires are often a standard, preferred choice for their smoother ride and longer tread life.

Beyond Height: More Customizations for the Perfect Fit

Creating the perfect enclosed trailer goes beyond just specifying the height. A host of other options allows you to fine-tune your trailer for your exact application, ensuring every detail serves a purpose.

Electrical Options for Added Functionality

Upgrade your trailer with a full electrical package, including 110v outlets, interior and exterior LED lighting, and even a breaker box to connect to shore power. This is essential for turning your trailer into a mobile workshop, powering tools, charging batteries, or providing light for early morning or late-night work.

Exterior Upgrades and Style

Customize the look and durability of your trailer. Opt for a screwless exterior for a clean, sleek look that’s ideal for applying business graphics. Choose from a wide array of colors to match your tow vehicle or brand. Upgrades like aluminum wheels, ATP (Aluminum Tread Plate) fenders, and stone guards not only enhance appearance but also add to the trailer’s long-term durability.

Flooring and Interior Finishes for Durability and Use

While plywood is a durable standard, you can upgrade your flooring to pressure-treated wood, rubber coin flooring, or aluminum tread plate for enhanced durability and easier cleanup, depending on your needs. Similarly, finished interior walls and ceilings (like white vinyl) can brighten the space and give it a more professional feel.
