Does the 6x14 trailer come with electric brakes?

No it doesn’t but they’re available as a custom option.

Side Note: If the combined weight of the trailer and its load approaches or exceeds 3,000 pounds, many jurisdictions require brakes on the trailer. However, a 4×6 enclosed trailer, given its size, is unlikely to reach this weight limit when fully loaded, as they typically have a lower payload capacity.

Safety Considerations

Driving Conditions: If you plan to tow your trailer in hilly or mountainous areas, or if you’ll be driving in a lot of stop-and-go traffic, having electric brakes can significantly improve safety by reducing stopping distances and improving vehicle control.

Emergency Handling: Electric brakes can offer better control in emergency braking situations, reducing the risk of accidents.

Wear on Vehicle Brakes: Using a trailer with its own braking system can reduce wear and tear on your vehicle’s brakes, especially important for frequent towing or heavy loads.

Why the Anvil 6×14 Single Axle is a Smart Choice

This trailer stands out in a crowded market by offering a generous amount of protected cargo space in a maneuverable, single-axle design. It’s built by a manufacturer known for quality construction, ensuring your investment is protected for years of reliable service. Whether you’re a contractor securing tools, a landscaper moving equipment, or a powersports enthusiast transporting your gear, the 6×14 size provides ample room while remaining easy to tow and park.

What This Guide Will Cover

This comprehensive guide will walk you through every essential detail of the Anvil 6×14 single axle enclosed cargo trailer. We’ll explore its ideal use cases, break down its robust standard features, delve into valuable custom options, and cover critical aspects of safe towing, maintenance, and the buying process. By the end, you’ll have all the information needed to decide if this is the ideal trailer for your needs.

The Anvil 6×14 Single Axle: Precision-Engineered for Specific Needs

Choosing a cargo trailer is about matching the equipment to the job. The Anvil 6×14 single axle isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution; it’s a precision-engineered tool designed for users who require a specific combination of capacity, agility, and efficiency.

Why a 6×14 Foot Enclosed Trailer? The Perfect Balance

The 6×14 foot size is a highly sought-after configuration for good reason. The 6-foot width allows for easy navigation through city streets and tighter spaces where wider trailers struggle. The 14-foot length provides approximately 84 square feet of floor space, enough to accommodate long items, multiple pieces of equipment like mowers and ATVs, or a significant volume of boxes and materials. This balance ensures you have substantial hauling capacity without the towing challenges and higher costs associated with larger, dual-axle trailers.

Single Axle Advantages: Maneuverability, Efficiency, and Cost

A single axle (SA) design offers distinct advantages. Firstly, maneuverability is significantly enhanced. Backing into tight driveways, job sites, or storage units is far simpler than with a tandem axle. Secondly, with fewer tires and components, single axle trailers are lighter, which can improve the fuel efficiency of your tow vehicle. Finally, the initial purchase price is generally lower, and long-term maintenance costs are reduced due to having half the number of tires, bearings, and brakes to service.

Ideal Use Cases for the Anvil 6×14 SA: Who Benefits Most?

This trailer’s versatility makes it a valuable asset for a diverse range of users:

  • Landscapers and Lawn Care Professionals: Easily transport zero-turn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and tools, all secured from weather and theft.
  • General Contractors and Tradespeople: A mobile workshop for tools, ladders, and materials, keeping everything organized and ready for the next job.
  • Motorsports Enthusiasts: Perfectly sized for hauling a side-by-side, two ATVs, or multiple dirt bikes to the trail.
  • Small Business Owners: Ideal for delivery services, mobile detailing setups, or transporting inventory to markets and events.
  • Homeowners: A superior solution for moving, tackling large home improvement projects, or storing seasonal items.

Unpacking the Anvil Advantage: Key Features of Your 6×14 Enclosed Trailer

Anvil trailers are distinguished by their commitment to quality construction and user-centric features. The standard build of the 6×14 model provides a durable and reliable foundation for any hauling task.

Robust Foundation and Frame for Durability and Safety

The trailer’s longevity starts with its frame. Anvil utilizes sturdy tube main frames and crossmembers, often with 16-inch on-center spacing for both the floor and walls. This construction provides superior rigidity and strength compared to weaker C-channel or Z-channel frames with wider spacing. The frame is also typically undercoated to protect against rust and corrosion. To top it off, a durable Galvalume roof offers excellent resistance to the elements, ensuring the contents stay dry and secure.

Effortless Access and Security for Your Valuables

Easy and secure access is critical. The Anvil 6×14 typically comes standard with a spring-assisted Rear Ramp Door, making it simple to load heavy, wheeled equipment. This ramp often includes a transition flap for a smooth entry. For side access, a 32-inch RV-style door with a secure Flush Lock provides a clean exterior look and reliable security. This combination ensures you can get to your cargo quickly, whether you need to grab a small tool from the side or load a large machine from the back.

Reliable Running Gear for Smooth and Safe Towing

A trailer is only as good as its running gear. The Anvil 6×14 is equipped with a durable leaf spring axle, typically rated at 3,500 lbs, providing a solid foundation for your load. A crucial standard feature is the inclusion of Radial Tires. Compared to older bias-ply tires, radials offer a smoother ride, better heat dissipation for longer life, and improved traction. Stylish and corrosion-resistant Aluminum Fenders protect the trailer body from road debris kicked up by the tires.

Superior Visibility and Lighting for Road Safety

Safety on the road is non-negotiable. The Anvil 6×14 features a full complement of LED lighting, including tail lights, brake lights, and side marker lights. LED lights are brighter, last significantly longer, and consume less power than traditional incandescent bulbs, making your trailer more visible to other drivers day and night. The trailer connects to your vehicle via a standard electrical plug, which powers the lights and the braking system.

Standard Interior Height Considerations for Versatile Loading

Standard Interior Height on a 6×14 trailer is often around 6 feet 3 inches (75 inches). This height is ample for most equipment, including UTVs and zero-turn mowers, and allows most people to stand comfortably inside. It provides a good balance between interior cubic footage and overall trailer profile, which affects wind resistance and towing stability. For those needing more clearance, taller height options are available.

Customizing Your Anvil 6×14: Options and Upgrades for Optimal Functionality

While the standard Anvil 6×14 is a capable hauler, its true potential is unlocked through customization. Tailoring the trailer with specific options ensures it performs exactly as you need it to, transforming it from a general cargo box into a specialized tool for your trade or hobby.

Tailoring the Interior for Your Specific Needs

The interior is a blank canvas. Consider adding E-track on the floors and walls to create versatile, adjustable tie-down points for securing cargo of various shapes and sizes. For contractors, installing shelves or cabinets can create an organized, mobile workspace. Upgrading to a more durable floor, like rubber coin or diamond plate flooring, can increase longevity and provide better grip. Extra interior lighting and non-powered roof vents are other popular and practical upgrades.

Enhancing Exterior Aesthetics and Protection

You can customize the exterior to match your brand or vehicle. Anvil offers a wide range of color options for the aluminum skin. A popular aesthetic and functional upgrade is the “semi-screwless” exterior, which uses high-bond tape on the seams for a cleaner, sleeker look that’s also easier to wrap with graphics. You can also add a “blackout” package, which finishes all trim, fenders, and hardware in black for a modern, aggressive appearance.

Popular Options for the Anvil 6×14 Single Axle Trailer

Many buyers choose from a list of popular options to enhance safety, convenience, and functionality. Adding electric brakes is a highly recommended safety upgrade, providing superior stopping power controlled directly from your tow vehicle. Increasing the interior height to 6’6″ or 7′ is essential for taller equipment or for those planning a conversion. Other popular custom features include adding stabilizer jacks for stability when unhitched, upgrading to stronger axles, or installing side windows for natural light.

Safe Towing and Payload Management for Your Anvil 6×14 SA

Owning a trailer comes with the responsibility of operating it safely. Proper loading, understanding weight limits, and ensuring your tow vehicle is up to the task are all critical for a safe and successful journey.

Understanding Payload Capacity and Weight Limit for Your 6×14 Trailer

Every trailer has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which is the maximum total weight of the trailer and its cargo. A typical 3,500 lb axle trailer might have a GVWR of 2,990 lbs to avoid mandatory brake requirements in some states. To find your payload capacity, you subtract the trailer’s empty weight (curb weight) from its GVWR. For example, if the trailer weighs 1,400 lbs and has a 2,990 lb GVWR, your maximum payload is 1,590 lbs. Never exceed the GVWR.

Mastering Weight Distribution and Load Approaches

How you load your cargo is just as important as how much you load. The goal is to place 60% of the cargo’s weight forward of the axle, centered over the trailer’s length. This places approximately 10-15% of the total trailer weight on the hitch (tongue weight), which is crucial for preventing dangerous trailer sway. Secure all items firmly using tie-down straps to prevent shifting during transit.

Tow Vehicle Compatibility: Ensuring Your Vehicle Can Handle the Anvil 6×14

Before you purchase, verify your vehicle’s towing capacity in its owner’s manual. Most mid-size SUVs, half-ton pickup trucks, and full-size vans can comfortably handle a loaded Anvil 6×14. Your vehicle must be equipped with a proper Class III hitch and the correct electrical plug (usually a 7-way RV plug) to connect the trailer’s lights and electric brakes.

Safety Considerations for the Road

Always perform a pre-trip inspection. Check that the coupler is securely latched to the hitch ball, safety chains are crossed and attached, and the electrical plug is firmly connected. Test your lights and brakes before pulling out. When driving, allow for longer stopping distances, make wider turns, and be mindful of your increased length and height.

Maintaining Your Anvil 6×14 for Years of Reliable Service

Proper maintenance is the key to ensuring your Anvil trailer remains a dependable asset for its entire service life. A consistent routine of checks and care will prevent costly repairs and ensure safety on the road.

Pre-Use Checks: Ensuring Readiness Before Every Trip

Before each tow, conduct a quick walk-around. Check tire pressure, as under-inflated tires are a leading cause of blowouts. Inspect the tires for any visible damage or excessive wear. Verify that all lights—brake, running, and turn signals—are functioning correctly. Confirm the ramp door and side door latches are secure.

Routine Maintenance Checks for Longevity and Efficiency

On a regular basis (every few months or after significant mileage), perform more in-depth checks. Lubricate moving parts like the ramp door hinges and door locks. Inspect the wheel bearings and hubs; many Anvil trailers come with E-Z Lube hubs to simplify greasing. Check the torque on the wheel lug nuts to ensure they are tight.

Seasonal Care: Winterizing Strategies for the Coldest Months

If you store your trailer during winter, take a few preventative steps. Wash and wax the exterior to protect the finish from moisture. Clean the interior thoroughly to prevent mold or pests. To prevent flat spots, consider placing the trailer on jack stands to take the weight off the tires, or at least ensure they are inflated to the maximum recommended pressure.

Exterior and Interior Care for Peak Condition

Regularly wash the exterior, paying special attention to the Galvalume roof and aluminum fenders, to remove road grime and salt that can cause corrosion over time. Inspect all seals around doors, vents, and lights for any signs of cracking or wear that could lead to leaks. Sweep out the interior plywood floor to remove debris that can trap moisture and cause rot.

The Anvil Buying Journey: From Quote to Ownership

Purchasing an Anvil trailer is a straightforward process. Working with a reputable dealer ensures you get the right product, fair pricing, and reliable support.

Getting Your Quote and Understanding Pricing (Price, Sale)

The final price of your trailer will depend on the standard model cost plus any custom options you select. Contact an authorized Anvil dealer for an accurate quote. Be sure to ask about any current sale promotions or package deals that could offer significant savings. The price should clearly detail all the features included. Don’t hesitate to compare quotes, but remember that the level of service and support from the dealer is also part of the value. Once you finalize the details, you can place your order. Depending on inventory and custom requests, you will be given an estimated timeline for pickup or delivery.
